If anyone’s wondering why a locked door “can’t be opened”, the character in question required three consecutive 16s (or higher) on a d20 to open the lock. This for a character who was one point short of being as maxed on Thievery as it’s possible to be at 1st level. Charles’ odds of success are 5.6%. Not too good to begin with – but every time he rolls a 6, he undoes a success (or breaks his thievery tools).
