    Thank you. On the whole I’m not sure that approach worked as well as I’d hoped. For the most recent Empire of the Petal Throne game I ran we dropped the elaborate workaround of coming from a distant isle and opted for the “not thinking about it too deeply” approach 😀

    Also, every time one of the players started pointing out inconsistencies or logical fallacies in the setting, their character accidentally died by accident, and they got to play a slave. Which was a very effective – yet completely accidental – way of getting them to pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. 😉
