Well, my group has made it through our second session of WLD and we’re not dead yet, although the kobolds almost had us at the end of session 2. But first things first, the party:

Igneon – Warforged Fighter (yours truly)

    Doxana – Shifter Scout

    Jerinth – Human Warlock

Thrahk – Dwarf Cleric of Moradin

Rolan the Map Maker – Elan Kineticist (Just added during session 2)

We started out investigating something in a mansion in the town of Saltmarsh and following a passageway down that ended up depositing us into the WLD. We met the orcs in the first room and the dwarf (the only one who could speak Orcish) ended up offering to shorten their wait for death. Combat ensued, three orcs ended up very very dead. We wandered through rooms, found mold, stinky bodies, and darkmantles. My character doesn’t have to eat, sleep, or breath, so he gets all the nasty exploration duties. The first night’s dinner consisted of roasted/fried darkmantle tentacles. We ended up finding a scything blade trap the next day that liberated the Scout’s right from her body, fought a rat swarm and made it to second level.

The second session we found some everburning torches. Since I ended up first in the party usually, I tied a couple of torches to my head so that I had a light. This turned out to save me from a darkmantle later as the dark mantle decided the big adamantine thing with fire on it’s head probably wasn’t such a good meal and went for the psion instead. After nearly losing the psion, we put down the darkmantles and continued exploring. Eventually we found the room where the kobolds had holed up. A battle ensued that involved the Warforged running away in fear once (Krenshar), charging back in, killing kobolds and the wizard’s familiar, being feared again and running away. The Warlock spent most of the battle either color-sprayed or asleep. The psion spent all his power points and not a whole lot happened to the Scout. The cleric’s player was missing that night, so he didn’t get involved in the fight. One of the kobolds did surrender and the Scout has taken him on as a henchman and named him “Meepo”. We ended the session a few hundred experience shy of third level, but we shouldn’t have any problem hitting it on the next level.

If this proves hard to read, I can edit it some. I’m just writing from memory as it is. 🙂

Nicely written. Sounds like you are off to a good start!

Oy, sounds like fun! Record it! You can be like a fan-homage version of RPGMP3.

I’m quite serious. There are far too few groups recording their sessions. Try one, we’d love to hear how you guys do your games.

If you lack server space to host, you could use streamload or something like that. Or even just post a bittorrent or emule link to keep the upload off your back for the most part.

I’d need some means to record first. We game in my dining room, which is a long way from my computer room.

From what I can tell, the folk at RPGMP3 record using a personal mp3 player with a record feature. Most good ones, new and old, have one. Also, recording on a computer is quite troublesome. It lends itself to humming while you record as the fan is going, which can be VERY annoying (believe me, I know!)

I would say, grab an ipod or something similar, check out the record settings and go to town. Be sure to clear the memory and check the batteries (or plug it in) and record at a nice rate. Then I think it’s just a matter of plugging it into the computer later and editing it at your leisure.

Now that’s what I call, “The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh”.

Did the players know this was going to happen? Otherwise a three session dungeon will seriously overrun. 😀

It was basically our DM’s intro narration. We all knew where we were going.

We’re going to see what we can do. Recording equipment is a bit difficult for this group to come by since only one of us has an iPod.

I don’t use an MP3 Recorder for my sessions. I know my audio is not as good as here but I simply use a digital recorder (Olympus DS 330 http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getp … id=587391/) to transfer it to a Flash Memory card (it only holds about 2:30 hours on high quality mode). Then I take both files home for fiddling.

From there I use the recorder software to convert to .wav.

Then I use Audacity (a free download at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ with an MP3 Encoder (Lame, also a free download http://lame.sourceforge.net/) to take out some of the noise and convert to an MP3.

Then it is up to my web site.

    Hope this helps.

I would love to hear more audio of gaming groups. I don’t know why I find it so enjoyable but it is great. I listen to WLD and World of Skell every week if I can.

    Tomlib,

I’d definatly like to listen to the audio stream from your site. I’m plowing through the World of Skell an I’m up to date on WLD. When I get caught up I’ll start on yours! 🙂

I’d encourage any one inclined to record their games. This is very fun stuff. If you record it, I’ll give it a listen!

Back into the WLD tonight for my group. The Kineticist’s player is missing tonight, but we’ve got the player for our cleric back. The Warforged is contemplating paladinhood. We’ll see if he takes up the holy warrior’s mantle.

A rather meandering trip took us through a room with 3 darkmantles (finished in short order) and a couple of rooms with skeletons on the walls. Wandering around, the dwarf cleric activated a trap and got himself cursed. He’s now rolling on a random table every time he enters a “stressful situation”. The first stressful situation he ran into was meeting up with Bragdor. That combat lasted all of one round when the Warlock shattered Bragdor’s club. Bragdor gave up almost immediately and we talked to him for a bit and found out about Orgar. We retrieved some hill giant bones from another room and with my weapon smithing we put them together into a flail sort of thing for him to use. Exploring further, we ran into Tourag and escorted him down to Bragdor’s room. Then it was back to exploring corridors. Behind a couple of secret doors, we entered area E and paused there to level. We’re all level 3 now. The current party is as follows:

    Igneon – Warforged Fighter 2/Paladin 1

    Doxana – Shifter Scout 3

    Thrahk – Dwarf Cleric 3

    Jerinth – Human Warlock 3

Roland the Map Maker – Elan Kineticist 3 (assumed, he hasn’t leveled yet)

When I get the story of Igneon’s conversion to paladinhood written, I’ll post it here. It kind of all happens in his head (remeniscent of Balazaar’s issues with Shar), so I need to write it up for my DM anyways.

I’ll second that notion, even though it’s just a repetition of my earlier feelings. 🙂 Post post post. 😛

Still looking at voice recorders trying to find one I think will work. Unfortunately I’m uncertain about the microphones that I’ve seen on some of them. I don’t know that they’ll pick up everyone around the table.
