It was interesting to hear your running discussion about the new site, after Lindsay pressed the shiny red button at the very beginning of the episode, launching the remodeled website.
You mentioned that it’s possible to actually do stuff with the Karma points, rather than just pointlessly accumulating them (or not, if you manage to piss people off enough). 😉
What kind of forum wang could you theoretically buy with them? Further gamification of the site might help spur people into posting more frequently.
(BTW: You know when Hal and Lockhart talked about the potentially highly cluttered site that could result from people buying new crap with their Karma points, and they both agreed that they “like it tidy”? Hugely disappointed that nobody thought of Torm.) 🙁
Re: Lockhart discussing the Demon Prince Pazuzu, and his Candyman-esque ability to frag you over, repeatedly and at leisure, if you speak his name three times – have you read the fanfic Harry Potter and the Natural 20? It’s a great story, jam-packed with munchkinry and gaming in-jokes. Plus, Pazuzu plays a small but important role, several times in the narrative, especially around Christmas time. 🙂

We can set the points to be spent on all kinds of things from changing the colour of your username to removing other peoples posts to changing someone else’s username 🙂 It was something we decided to add to the back burner and investigate a little more before we added it 😀

Yeah – another reason it hasn’t been rolled out. I can choose what can be added but it adds extra complexity to the forums and I hear from some that they are still confused after the move from the old ones 🙂

Yeah, most people tend to bit somewhat disoriented after visiting the Old Ones. 😉
