Dude, I’ve been waiting frickin’ ages for Hugsy Canucksy to get people to play more InSpectres. I’m saving this episode for the weekend, so I can properly savor it in a leisurely fashion. tony_stark_emoticon_by_starrypoke-d5fwva

PS: If it turns out that @[member=Lockhart] managed to get another hapless bunch of gamers (i.e. you guys) to ‘inspect’ his Back Door To The SwampTM, I’ll owe him a solid high five. 😉

Hey Hal, why didn’t you mention that you’d managed to arrange an exciting Bradford/Texas/Yorkton crossover session? 🙂

    Starring:
Hal – Jacques “Swampy” Thibedeaux – Team Hillbilly.
Heather – Helen Renatus – Team Exorcist (Roman Catholic).
Steve – Jason Stone – Team Jock (former high school quarterback).
    Lockhart – Game Master.

@[member=Lockhart], if you run out of good ideas for Louisiana-based occult shenanigans that the Swamp Prodders can investigate, check out the Canon Puncture convention AP where they played InSpectres. They ended up investigating a local pizza parlor who suffered from demonically possessed pepperoni, and traced the tainted meat back to the infamous Right Bayou pepperoni company. 😀 (Of course, you don’t have to include such glorious puns in your own game, but you’ll be missing out on a wonderful opportunity if you don’t.) 😉

By the way, @[member=WhiteKnight]: when you suggested that the cell phone’s minor drawback should be that “you can’t change the ring tone from a comedy clown car sound”, where you deliberately thinking of Wayne, or was it subconscious? 😉

Also, it seems terribly interesting that it was @[member=Heather]’s idea that the office computer should be infected with a piece of malware that made it look up porn on its own volition. 😉

    Hal: It’s a good virus! 🙂

The UK / US / Canadia crossover was supposed to be a surprise but no one listened 🙂

What did you actually think of the game? 🙂

There were listeners Hal – do not fret 🙂  The game was great despite the technical issues in Canada and the UK.  I haven’t played this game before but it sounds like fun.  I grew up on a healthy diet of Ghostbusters films and comics and know a ‘Class 5: Full-Roaming Vapor’ when it covers me in slime so I will have to hunt down a copy at some point… It seemed easily adaptable to being inserted into the furthest reaches of moonshine drenched Everglades or Louisiana or wherever it was.  In my head it was ‘Rat Bastards with Ghosts’ – beautiful!

I loved the accents and the chance to hear Lockhart run something other than Pathfinder (Perhaps a polite and deadly game of Paranoia from Our Friend the Computer next?).

‘Swampy’ asks – “WIll there be more Swamp Inspectres?”

I definitely busted up laughing every time Hal and Lockhart had a conversation in character that devolved into mutual hillbilly gurnting. I’m not really sure how I feel about the game system, I can see a few places where a group of experienced gamers could/would break the game (and the fun) making a mathematically efficient team of PCs and then having the appropriate person for each roll suggest the task that requires that kind of roll. (I think Hal saw this too during the game but was nice enough to ignore the problem afterwards).

Glad people are enjoying. I have fun with inspectrs.

Regarding the system, first of all, there are no rules on when the GM can call for stress tests. They can be made out of thin air provided the GM gives a reason for them. Secondly, a GM can always impose a rule similar to the item creation ‘whoever speaks an idea, has to roll to implement the idea. Of course, in the end, if the goal of the players is to break the system, Inspectres just isn’t the game for them anyway, and best trying something else instead of forcing Inspectres to fit.

Oh absolutely. Inspectres seems like an excellent system for any group that isn’t a bunch of grognards who are hard into “system mastery.” It reminds me of the board game Pandemic in that way, in that fun seems to be inversely proportional to how hard the players are trying to crunch the efficiency numbers.

I listened to it on the drive home last night.  All I can say is that I am disturbed as I could follow Hal and Lockhart when they began talking, but having worked in Louisiana for a few months, I can also say it was eerily similar to several conversations I have overheard down there.   😕

Very interesting system, seems like it really streamlines play and solving the mission based on a few lucky roles is different as well.  Seems like a really good one shot material.

I’m enjoying this one. I’ve just got to the undercover cultured musician. I might have to look at picking this game up.

And having finished the episode, Hal changed from Forrest Gump to Luther Rizzo….
