GF and I are planning a vacation in Wales next year, and we’ve discovered the place is seriously tiny. Like smaller than the city I’m living in tiny. So we are looking for places to see and things to do. Also, if anybody has room at a game we’re open to joining in for a session. So any tips?

Keep an eye on the Wales Games Development Show website, they’ll be announcing the 2015 convention dates later on, and you might wanna consider planning your holiday so it coincides with it, if their itinerary sounds interesting.
Rhyl features a miniature railway, and stout old Bodelwyddan Castle, if you want regular sightseeing attractions.
Oh, and when you’re visiting your ancestral home, make sure you take a picture of yourself in front of a street sign on Royal Welch Avenue. 😉

My family emigrated from Rhyl three centuries ago, so we were planning to go just to see what was so bad they had to get out of town. Will check out Royal Welch Avenue for sure though.

You might end up starting a new list of Things Mr. Welch’s Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandparents Aren’t Allowed To Do In Rhyl Anymore. 😉

Castles. Wales is covered in the things. They were built by the English to subjugate the Welsh. Now the Welsh Heritage board get their own back by charging English tourists a fortune to go round them. 😀
Â
Lots of scenery. And rain. Quite a bit of rain. Actually Wales is known for it….

I concur – Much of my childhood was spent in North Wales –
Â
The main castles to check out in that area are: Rhuddlan (just south of Rhyl) and Conwy, Harlech (aka Bunco Keep), Caernarfon & Beaumaris all constructed by your ancestor’s beloved overlords to the east (Edward I) to keep them inline. :fighter:
Â
The beaches and mountains are well worth seeing too! Snowdonia has beautiful walks over mountains, around lakes and through tempearate rainforests!
Â
If you are heading south towards Cardiff (the capital on the south coast) my brother-in-law runs sightseeing day tours around South Wales which are a lot of fun 🙂
Â
I’m sure other tour operators are avaliable, but nowhere near as good 😉

That Tunnels & Trolls game was epic. 🙂

I recommend trying the Golden Gower tour, if only for the numerous possibilities for hilarious mispronounciations. 😉

Plymouth sounds nice. 🙂
a guide to uk cities for foreign people
- manchester: gays. you will probably get mugged.
- liverpool: like manchester, but less gay. you will definitely get mugged.
- newcastle: probably quite good for canadians as exists in permafrost and has never left the 90s.
- leeds: it’s a lot cheaper than london
- bradford: leeds but awful
- nottingham: gun death capital of the uk!
- derby: intense rivalry with nottingham, literally no one else in the country or world gives any fucks about this.
- hull: violently resist anyone who attempts to take you here
- leicester: i’m not sure this is a real place
- york: this is an illustration from the top of a christmas biscuit assortment
- birmingham: NO.
- brighton & hove: more gays. is only a pretend city. mild to moderate chance of mugging. contains some deeply annoying hippies. basically if san francisco was british.
- portsmouth: there is literally nothing here.
- southampton: exactly the same as portsmouth but smells of off milk
- bristol: you have a 1 in 10 chance of ending up in a bbc recording. everyone sounds like a farmer or bob marley.
- cardiff: you have a 1 in 5 chance of ending up in a bbc recording, and a 1 in 3 chance of being glassed.
- plymouth: post apocalyptic wind tunnel full of drunk sailors pissing on depressed hookers. do not enter.
- penzance: everyone here is from london now.
- london: no one from london is actually from london and even breathing is expensive.
- cambridge: windy and full of equal amounts of homeless drug addicts and public schoolboys. the junkies are nicer.
- oxford: same number of cunts as cambridge but easier to escape from due to all-night bus to london
- edinburgh: a goth turned into a city. basically london but slightly more scottish.
- glasgow: it is impossible to tell whether people are angry or happy.
- aberdeen: las vegas at the point when vegas starts crying uncontrollably
- belfast: do not order “an irish car bomb” OR “a black and tan” here.
- wolverhampton: really, really don’t.
- norwich: count people’s fingers. mutations walk here.
- coventry: like plymouth, bombed flat in ww2. like plymouth, failed to take the hint. like plymouth: do not alight here.

I wish I would have had that link before I moved to Blighty. Â No Wiltshire on the list, so I guess I’ll just hang with the moonrakers tricking The Man
April 10, 2015 at 3:36 pm #647079Still loving that Wales poster 😛
