Mystara Player’s Guide

Six years ago, I started an epic journey to convert Mystara into 5th edition to introduce new players to the greatest D&D setting officially produced.  One year ago, I succeeded.  But I wasn’t happy with it; there were errors.  So I started to revise and correct those errors until I was satisfied with it.  This version is evidence of my morbid compulsion to be absolutely flawless and now I am proud to release the Mystara Player’s Guide v2.

Inside this book, you will find everything you need to create a character specifically for playing in the Known World.  Five new races, over 30 new subclasses, dozens of new spells, and information compiled from all the gazetteers and other books all in one place for the first time.  There are new forms of magic, including the powerful yet dangerous Secret Crafts of Magic and the mysterious Radiance magic.  Thorfinn Tait generously donated the maps, featuring art from numerous artists, including the talented Rubus and Mischa Cel Frumos.

There is information on all 16 nations of the Known World, plus the magical gnomish flying city of Serraine.  You can test your skills in the fighting pits of Thyatis with a host of gladiatorial feats.  Once you’ve earned your well-earned reward, flip to the back for page after page of luxury items, tools, weapons, and magic items to squander away your loot.  The player’s guide combines the classic feel of Dungeons and Dragons with the updated rules.

This book is free for download in all its forms and was created using the fanwork license from Wizards of the Coast.  All art in the book was specifically commissioned and paid for by myself.  The POD version of this book is formatted for Lulu, I have no affiliation with them.  Physical copies of the book are for the use of the person ordering the Print on Demand copy; this book cannot be uploaded for sale in any format per the fanwork license.

Please donate using the donation link below if you liked this work and want to see more like it.  I am working on the Dungeon Master’s Guide, giving it the same level of detail and depth I gave the Player’s Guide.  However, that level of quality requires paying artists, and good artists cost money.  I have even more books in the pipe, and the more art I can add to a book, the more you will enjoy it.  One day hopefully, Wizards of the Coast will allow us to publish new Mystara books as they do with other, lesser settings, but until then, I will keep representing the Known World.

Sono ormai passati 40 anni dall’uscita in Italia dell’incredibile Scatola Rossa grazie alla quale migliaia di giocatori si sono entusiasmati, sono cresciuti e continuano a trasmettere la passione per Mystara. Insieme abbiamo tifato per la chierica Aleena, odiato l’infido mago Bargle e sognato di sconfiggere il male che infesta le terre di questo mondo fantastico. Centinaia di ore di divertimento passate insieme agli amici che, nonostante i pochi mezzi dell’epoca, hanno segnato la nostra infanzia.

Negli anni l’intera comunità internazionale ha contribuito a far crescere l’ambientazione creando nuovi contenuti, molti prodotti da autori italiani, per i quali il Mondo Conosciuto è rimasto sempre nel cuore. Si ringraziano tutti i membri della community per il loro contributo diretto o indiretto alla creazione di questo libro.

Un anno fa, con la Guida del Giocatore a Mystara, Glen Welch ha riproposto questa storica ambientazione in chiave moderna. Finalmente gli intrighi di Glantri, le fosse dei gladiatori di Thyatis ed i pericoli delle Terre Brulle possono essere affrontati utilizzando i più recenti regolamenti di D&D 5E.

Ora, dopo una lunga e meticolosa revisione, ore ed ore di prove e bilanciamenti, la Guida del Giocatore di Mystara è stata totalmente rivista e viene ripresentata in chiave aggiornata, finalmente totalmente in italiano!

La traduzione ha volutamente rispettato tutto il materiale fin’ora prodotto, sia amatorialmente che ufficialmente, in italiano. Abbiamo cercato di riproporre quanto più possibile nomi e termini già utilizzati in passato per dare continuità alle pubblicazioni.

Si ringraziano in particolare Glen Welch per lo splendido lavoro e l’amicizia che si è venuta a creare, Rodolfo Gruden, Simone De Vivo e Alessio Giacomelli per l’enorme aiuto nella traduzione e Thorfinn Tait, per aver permesso che le sue mappe parlassero finalmente in italiano.
